Mansion on the Edge of Town
|
Milord, every few years, the Celestial Realm experiences a total eclipse of the sun that lasts for several days. I believe this may be a first for you. Amid this darkness, we have received a request to investigate a certain mansion that has been the subject of many a rumor. They say whenever the darkness of a total solar eclipse shrouds the land, a ghost who lost her soul haunts its halls, seeking to steal the souls of mansion visitors and drag them into eternal darkness.

- This is the mansion that rumors claim is haunted. A fair maiden once live here, but it has been abandoned ever since she passed away. But I must say... I sense something quite uncanny afoot... The ghost that haunts these halls is known as the Sundered Spirit, for she lost her life and soul, dooming her to ever wander in the realm between life and death. Oh my... I do believe I just saw a figure in one of the windows.

- ...M-Milord, do you not feel as if you are being watched? There is someone here in this mansion besides us. I am sure of it! But is it not strange? It is so neat and tidy in here, considering it is supposedly abandoned. 'Tis almost as if someone were living here, but...

- Guide Dialogue
- I have heard told that ghosts shun the sun. So it is they seek darkness, and become particularly animated during total eclipses when the power of the sun is at its weakest. Eek...! I-I j-just saw something go around that bend up ahead! P-Please, Milord, w-we must go investigate. I-I shall be right behind you!

- Guide Dialogue
- That figure we saw before was Veronica. It seems the ghost believed to haunt these halls was simply a mortal who snuck in here because she likes a good fright. ...Hm? You feel as if you are being watched again? But it feels different this time? P-Please, Milord, do not try to scare me so. L-Let us leave this place at once!

- How strange... The door is not locked, and yet push and pull as I might, it will not budge. Could the rumors told of the Sundered Spirit actually be true?! M-Milord! Let us find an open door or window, so we may flee this mansion at once! Oh, and umm... Please, Milord, will you not stay by my side? ...Closer. Closer, please...

- Oh, 'tis as I feared. There are no windows or doors that will open. They are impervious to being battered down, too. Does this mean the rumors are true? Are we to be trapped here, wandering these halls for all eternity?

- Guide Dialogue
- I sense an odious presence about, and it is only getting stronger. It bears great malice toward us, and yet it is filled with sorrow. Well, we must not stand around here, pondering our fate. We must go face the Sundered Spirit at once, terrifying though she may be.

- Guide Dialogue
- When we confront the Sundered Spirit, I feel as if my very soul freezes solid. 'Tis almost as if I am losing my sense of self. If either of us were alone, I fear she would drag us into eternal darkness, but thankfully, we have each other, and the rest of the valkyries. Let us all work together to overcome the darkness!

- Guide Dialogue
- Milord, if past years are any indication, the solar eclipse should be ending soon. With the light of the sun shining bright, the Sundered Spirit's power will likely wane. Ah! I-I just saw the Sundered Spirit once again! Beware, Milord, beware!

Mansion5-3
|
- Guide Dialogue
- Milord, 'tis now brightening outside! It seems the solar eclipse is drawing to an end, and the odious presence is at last waning. Just now, but for an instant, I saw the Sundered Spirit, but she appeared different. Do you suppose that was what she looked like back when she walked among the living? I wonder whether the Sundered Spirit will continue to appear with each total eclipse of the sun. Perhaps if we were to find something that filled the void where her soul once was, we could save her from the darkness that has imprisoned her.
