Upgrading (sometimes referred to as "Fusion") allows you to level up your cards. This is essential to maximizing the potential of your unit. During fusion, you can select up to 10 material cards in addition to various Arcanas. There is also a chance of a Great Success from occurring, which doubles the amount of experience given. You can guarantee the occurrence of a Great Success by using Arcana's Blessing and even combine it with Arcana Training for a total bonus of quadrupled experience.

Providing Experience

Among all, Lvl 27 Slime is the most commonly used card in upgrading other cards. Other options are available including battling Archwitches.

The experience given from various fusion of cards all follow a common formula: B + (F × E) = M

  • B is the base experience the card provides as material when it has 0 experience itself
  • F Defaults to (B × 0.0025). For special cards, factor is noted below as a tool tip
  • E is the experience that the material card has itself gained
  • M is the experience that the material card provides

As an example we will use a level 13 Slime, with 2000 exp (15 to next level). This has the following formula: 1000 + (1.25 × 2000) = 3500. When used as material, this will bring another card from level 1 up to level 19 with 245 exp needed to get to level 20.

  • N-card: Lvl 1 gives 100 exp, Lvl 30 gives 2288 exp
  • HN-card: Lvl 1 gives 150 exp, Lvl 40 gives 7128 exp

If upgrading a card using battles, you can increase the amount of experience per battle by using Autoskill (EXP) cards in your attack unit. These cards stack linearly, not multiplicatively. ie: 3 Fortunas will result in 4x exp rather than 8x. The best way to maximize your exp per BP is with 2 Fortunas with 3 of the cards you wish to level. Giving 9x exp, 3x exp on 3 cards.

For example, if a comrade or Alliance member can send you a low HP FAW, you can max level 4 Slimes using a team of

  • 4 Slimes and 1 H/SR Fortuna with a single Lvl 300 UR FAW (3000exp x 2.4 = 7200 exp : level 27)
  • 4 Slimes and 1 H/SR Fortuna with a single Lvl 300 HUR FAW (3600exp x 2.4 = 8640 exp : level 29)
  • 4 Slimes and 1 H/SR Fortuna with a single Lvl 400 UR FAW (4000exp x 2.4 = 9600 exp : level 31)
  • 4 Slimes and 1 Librarian with a single Lvl 400 UR FAW (4000exp x 2.2 = 8800 exp : level 30)

Upgrading Strategy

Tip: In the settings screen, you can disable R cards and higher from displaying as materials. This can prevent the accidental loss of those cards. However, Special Cards will always show even if they are SR or higher regardless of this setting.

In the lists below you will see some items that use evolved cards, like HSR Slime Queen, used as a material. To get the HSR, evolve them at level 1 and use no arcana. Then level the resulting HSR to the required level to use as a material.

N - GUR

There are several methods to quickly raise a card to its maximum level. This section lists the various materials you can use in order to do so. Note that each listed point is an option to pick from, rather than being part of a multi-step process.

In general, a GUR is really strong at level 1. Usually as strong as or stronger than a level 70 UR. If you don't mind waiting, the best way to level a GUR is through battles with AW and FAW. This will likely save you a lot of resources. You could also just partial level it using methods above for lower levels, then do the remainder through battles.

XSR and XUR

LR / HLR / GLR / XLR

Upgrading a LR class card is much like upgrading other cards. The main difference is that it takes more experience to level and when using Fusion based leveling, it costs Gems instead of Gold.

It appears that battle based leveling while using 2 or 3 GSR Fortuna is the easiest way to level an LR card through level 40 or so, albeit slowest. As you can see, the in the tables in the Experience section, the experience that would get a GUR card to level 90 only gets an LR card to level 33. Beyond Level 40, the growth rate of the card would be rather slow using battles and upgrades using Gems is then optimal.

The strength of LR cards while at level 1 is already better than most standard stat GUR cards. The main reason to level an LR class card quickly would be for Evolution or for equipping Custom Skills.

Level a card from 1 to 65 / To feed to a GLR:

The idea here is to try and not go over level 65 as it will cost more gems. For each of these levels for the feeder cards, you want them to be towards the low end of the level, not like 100exp to the next level.

LR Upgrade Resources

The cost to apply a card as fusion is based on the resulting level of the LR card. As seen in the screen shots, no matter the number of cards applied, the cost is equal to the number of gems listed in the grid below for the resulting level. This is the case even if the level does not change. The least expensive way to level the card is to somehow level from 1 to Max level in a single shot.

If you wish to use arcanas to upgrade the ATK/DEF of an LR card, it's suggested that you plan ahead of time and do this while it is still low-level, as upgrading with an N card becomes exponentially expensive at higher levels.

In order to max your LR cards immediately, you will need the following storage for your Gems:
